Im Schulalter entwickelt sich das Gewebe zur\u00fcck, im Erwachsenenalter sind nur mehr in seltenen F\u00e4llen Rachenmandeln vorhanden.<br \/>\nSind sie stark vergr\u00f6\u00dfert, kommt es zum kompletten Verschluss der Nasenatmung mit st\u00e4ndig offenem Mund. Die Kinder schnarchen nachts meist und husten oft durch hinunterrinnendes Sekret aus den Rachenmandeln. H\u00e4ufige Infekte im Nasenrachenbereich mit komplett behinderter Nasenatmung sind ein Grund f\u00fcr die operative Entfernung.<br \/>\nWenn die Rachenmandeln eher seitlich vergr\u00f6\u00dfert sind, verlegen sie die Verbindung zum Mittelohr.
